Tournament of Champions (TOC) and Ringer Tournament results
Club Manager's Note
The 2016 Poor Boys Golf season is now history. The season ending Tournament of Champions (TOC)was contested on October 15 at Waverly Woods. In perfect weather and on a perfectly groomed course, eleven of the winning members of this season competed in this major event for a share of the daily cash pool, gift certificates to the top three players, and the coveted TOC trophy. The rough was difficult and scores were high. Miles Isaacson was the recipient of the fine wine, in part by playing the 18th Hole in 12 strokes to just edge out Lou Taylor. In spite of an 11 on the 2nd Hole, Kevin ("KOD / B-P") O'Donnell finished the round as the only Poor Boy in red numbers at net 71. "B-P" took home the TOC Trophy, the daily 1st Place cash, and a TOC $75 Gift Certificate. Three players tied for second at net 75. Bill Pigg lost the tiebreaker two ways to finish out of the money. Finishing second to win a share of the daily cash pool and a TOC $50 Gift Certificate is Justin Hatz. Third place is won by Walter Quick to take home a share of daily cash and a TOC $25 Gift Certificate. The closest to the pin winners for this event are: Walter Quick, Justin Hatz, Kevin O'Donnell, and Lou Taylor. The season-long Ringer Tournament(Mean 18)was concluded with this event. Justin Hatz and the Commish tied for 1st Place, at 15 under par. Kevin O'Donnell won third place with his score at 13 under par. Doug Myers at 9 under finished in fourth place. When Kevin was interviewed by the ESPN junior analyst he was asked to comment whether he considered his TOC bounty plus closest to the pin prize money plus mean 18 prize money to be collectively excessive. In his typical deadpan he stated, "The collective bounty is barely sufficient to feed B-P's bad habits for 2 days." REFLECTIONS: In 2016 the Club's three major individual tournaments were won by three different winners. Carl Rebert is the Stroke Play Champion. Jeff Nengel took home the Boones Farm Cup. Kevin O'Donnell is the Tournament of Champion winner.
