Roughly half of our members responded to the survey. Thanks to each of you! After tabulating the results our Board of Directors held a meeting earlier this week to discuss changes for the 2018 season. The following summarizes that meeting.

An update to our local rules was reviewed and finalized. You can find them at - “Club Local Rules” - on the “CLUB” page of our website.

The Mean 18 Course definition was reviewed and finalized. Follow results during 2018 on the Ringer Standings page under Club Reports under the CLUB page.

The topic of multiple tee use during competition was discussed and finalized. Highlights of the discussion are:
  • For good reason you rarely see an over-50 year old pro playing on the PGA tour. Have you ever seen a 70-year old pro play on the Senior PGA tour? When it happens, it does not end well for the old guy.
  • Unfortunately our membership is not sufficiently large to allow flights by tee selection where forward tee players would compete among themselves, combo tee players compete among themselves, etc.
  • Historically, we allowed multiple tee competition and utilized the USGA handicap “adjustment” system. The system was developed to maintain fairness when different tees are in use between players. However, we migrated away from multiple tee competition because of incessant griping about unfair course setup.
  • The survey confirmed if we exclusively play combo tees, we continue to force members who are not competitive from combo tees to leave the club. Survey respondents unanimously stated they would not leave if we revert to multiple tee competition.
  • It was decided that combo tee definitions will be targeted to a length of approximately 6100 yards and we WILL allow multiple tee use in 2018 competition as follows:
    • Each member will make tee election which will be effective for the entire season.
    • Forward tees available only if member’s age is 70 or greater.
    • Combo tees (as defined on PBG website for the course).
    • Middle tees (as defined by course and are longer than combo tees).
    • The PBG published scorecards for an event will show the combo tee box selections by hole. If you play forward or middle tees, you know where to stick your tee in the ground.
    • Your handicap index will be adjusted solely by combo tee slope if you are a combo tee player.
    • If you are a forward tee player your handicap index will be adjusted by forward tee slope and the differential in course rating between forward and combo tees will be subtracted.
    • If you are a middle tee player your handicap index will be adjusted by middle tee slope and the differential in course rating between combo and middle tees will be added.
    • Only combo tees will be utilized for team competition events such as member/member and member/guest two-day events.
    • Several single day events will have a second money pool ($5 per player) for a blind-draw two-man low net competition. Play your elected tee box.
    •  Anyone competing from forward tee is not eligible for closest-to-pin competition.

The slow play policy was reviewed and finalized as follows:

  • No penalty unless your pace exceeds the pace on scorecard and you finish more than 16 minutes behind 4 sum in front.
  • When following a 3 sum you must finish no later than 20 minutes after 3 sum to avoid penalty.
  • When cart path only pace of play is increased by 13 minutes, i.e. 4:33
  • The penalty for slow play is +1 stroke for each player in group. Penalty will be added to score of 18th hole. When you finish more than 24 minutes behind 4 sum in front, penalty increases to +2 strokes for each player. At 32 minutes behind 4 sum in front you are disqualified from event but still responsible for $ into all pools.
  • Effective 2018 each member has one “get out of jail” free card. It will be automatically applied to the member’s first slow play infraction of the year. Thereafter the penalty is invoked.
